Finds differences between LSAR-036 deliveries.
DataSync™
Description
DataSync™ is the result of a customers’ challenge to reconnect its U.S. Army Repair Part and Special Tool List (RPSTL) to an existing Logistics Support Analysis Record (LSAR)-036 developed by a third-party. LHG’s task was to create J & K Cards for the 036 using the existing RPSTL. The third-party needed to change the 036 files daily, creating a moving target for all involved. LHG figured out a way of centering and stabilizing the moving target while adjusting to the ever-changing data.
Performance
Setting a baseline was key to holding the target still and DataSync™ enabled us to focus on changes to the 036 and then apply those changes to the RPSTL. Changes included items such as:
- Part Line Item Sequence Number (PLISN) adds
- PLISN deletes
- Added cards
- Deleted cards
- Any difference on cards with the same PLISN and same Card number such as Source, Maintenance and Recoverability (SMR) code changes, Part number and CAGE codes
Before DataSync™, the only way to ascertain the differences between two files would be to load one file into provisioning software such as Powerlog and create a baseline, then delete that file and load the new file. This would allow you to see the changes between two files, but still required a manual line by line comparison. Using LHG’s DataSync™ significantly reduced the time required from days to hours.
Performing the time consuming and complex synchronization of 036 baselines, determining what changed, what to update and who should complete the update, was the task. The added benefit of using LHG’s DataSync™, was the cost savings to all parties and the assurance that the end user would receive a usable product on time.
DataSync™ was also found to solve another customer challenge. By comparing two output 036 files, we were able to compare a pre-conference provisioning file against a post-conference provisioning file, documenting all changes that were made. DataSync™ solved the problem of how to conduct QA and report that all directed changes were made.
The challenges in both cases were met with “Solutions” that enhanced the quality of customers’ Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) deliverables, and aligned with Federal Integrated Product Support (IPS) guidelines, with the least amount of impact.
